One day she decided to find out if what her cousin Ramón had said was true: that a metal pin is capable of derailing the train. She thought about it deeply and weighed up the consequences, as a seven year old would do. So, she got the metal pin, put it carefully on one of the rails - in the way that Ramón had told her - and she waited. She had with her a packet of cotton, plasters and merthiolate. If something so insignificant was capable of destroying another very powerful thing, it was going to be necesary to cure the injured.
