| A man lived in Extremadura. The man was rich. He was very rich. He had houses and vineyards, cows and sheep, horses and pigs. The houses were big and new. The vineyards had many grapes. The cows, the sheep and the pigs were very fat. The horses were the most beautiful in Extremadura. | En Extremadura vivía un hombre. El hombre era rico. Era muy rico. Tenía casas y viñas, vacas y ovejas, caballos y cerdos. Las casas eran grandes y nuevas. Las viñas tenían muchas uvas. Las vacas, las ovejas y los cerdos estaban muy gordos. Los caballos eran los más hermosos de Extremadura. |
| The man had even more. He had a good wife and good children. He had everything he could wish for; but the man was not satisfied. He was not satisfied with God, his wife or his children. He was not satisfied with the weather either. | El hombre tenía todavía más. Tenía una buena mujer y buenos hijos. Tenía todo lo que podía desear; pero el hombre no estaba satisfecho. No estaba satisfecho con Dios ni con su mujer ni con sus hijos. Tampoco estaba satisfecho del tiempo. |
| When it was cold, he said, "It's cold. This weather is not good for my vineyards. When it rained, he exclaimed, "It rains too much; the weather is very wet. We must have sun." When it was sunny, he was not satisfied either. | Cuando hacía frío decía:-- Hace frío; este tiempo no es bueno para mis viñas. Cuando llovía, exclamaba:--Llueve demasiado; el tiempo está muy húmedo. Debemos tener sol. Cuando hacía sol, tampoco estaba satisfecho. |
| One day he entered his vineyard. The grapes were beautiful. He had more grapes than all the other people in Extremadura but he was not satisfied. "These grapes are very small," he said. "The weather is bad. It is very cold; it's not hot enough." | Un día entró en su viña. Las uvas eran hermosas. Tenía más uvas que todas las otras personas de Extremadura pero no estaba satisfecho. --Estas uvas son muy pequeñas--dijo.--Hace mal tiempo; hace mucho frío. No hace bastante calor. |
| At that moment, a tall, handsome man appeared in the vineyard. The stranger said, "You are never satisfied with the weather. It is always cold or hot, it is very wet or very dry. Would you like to choose the weather?" "Yes, I would," replied the rich man". "Well," said the stranger, "next year you must choose the weather for your vineyards." Then the stranger disappeared. | En ese momento se presentó en la viña un hombre alto y hermoso. El extranjero dijo: --Nunca está Vd. satisfecho del tiempo. Siempre hace frío o calor, es muy húmedo o muy seco. ¿Quiere Vd. elegir el tiempo? --Sí,--respondió el hombre rico,--Sí, me gustaría. --Pues bien,--dijo el extranjero,--el año que viene debe Vd. elegir el tiempo para sus viñas. Entonces el extranjero desapareció. |
